- (Notes : Complete Dial (Masters/Alternates) lp w/Embraceable You )
Relaxed Bird still searching rather than coasting; fine rhythm section. Too bad Miles Davis is aboard. Just think! We'd have had more Yard!

- (Notes : On Dial Vol.1 Spotlite Records )
I bought all six LPs of this series and saved (in my student's times) the money by eating salted rice only for ten days.

- I was 16 and on drugs (I'd just takjen a huge overdose of speed) when I bought this LP about 40 years ago. I couldn't get it out of my head during the months it took me to calm down. I've never heard any oither charlie parker (or much else) that matches the intensity of "There's a Small Hotel" - maybe Mahler's 10th. or Ravi Shankar's Raga Charu Keshi (I discovered the latter that same weekend). or Beethoven's Missa Solemnis conducted by Toscanini. But that's about it.

Great "Night in Tunisia". Lousy recording. Whoever edited the recording should be shot!

- (Notes : Uptown Records UPCD 27.51 )
I'm going to compromise my earlier entry on "Summit Meeting at Birdland" by posting this, but "The Early Bird Get's the Worm". This recording shows the easy flow of ideas that Bird had. Before Camarillo, Bird's Solo's flowed. After Camarillo, they yapped. "Summit" is still up on top of my list.(Bud Powell helps) However, In "Summit", Bird's "yapping". "Town Hall", Bird's flowing! The sound is damn good for it's time and you should grab a copy of this!
